Why can't I mark myself as being able to be claimed on someone else's taxes?

I have filled out all information, but I've seen nowhere to indicate that I can be claimed on someone else's taxes. This is my first time filing taxes.

Go back to My Info and click Edit by your name. Go though the questions and there is a list to check that  you can be claimed on someone else's return or someone else can claim me.

It only gives me the following info to edit:

  • First name
  • Middle Initial
  • Last name
  • Jr/Sr/etc
  • Date of birth
  • Occupation or job title

That's it.

I understand what the article is saying, but I am not given any of those options.

Are you using a Desktop version of TurboTax? The steps may display differently but are essentially the same.

If so, go to the Personal Info tab.

Click Continue.

Click Edit next to your name.

The next screen just displays your full name and other identifying information.

Click Continue.

The screen after that contains the question, "Do Any of These Apply to (name)?" See screenshot below. Click in the box next to "Another taxpayer can claim (name) on their tax return".

Found a screen shot posted of the Online version.  Will this help?
