Why can't I file as a nonresident of Pennsylvania?

I've completed my taxes and am trying to e-file my PA state return as a nonResident. I'm a resident of CA but worked in PA for a few months in 2021. When I try to submit, it says "Information Worksheet: NonResident cannot be checked if filing a final return". How can I resolve this issue?

Did you enter ''moved in and out of'' dates in the federal personal section by any chance?   If so, go back and delete those.  In the case of a non-resident, you only need to mark the box that says ''Other State Income''.

Don't enter any dates of PA residency on your PA return.   Your residence should be in CA all year.

If the personal information section looks correct, click on Forms in the upper-right corner.   Scroll down to the PA-40 form and make sure the residency status is set to N and that there are no dates entered.

I have the same problem. I am not a PA resident, so nonresident for the entire year, did not have to file a PA return in 2021 because there was no income from PA, but had income in 2022. I followed the directions and went back to review the PA-40 and all the information is correct and as you pointed out in your response to the original questioner, but still am no allowed to click the box for nonresident. So it keeps showing an error.

If you can't check the box to indicate you were a Non-Resident on the Pennsylvania Information Worksheet, there may be something in your return indicating you were a resident or part-year resident.

In the PA interview, the first screen should confirm your residency (screenshot).

Check your Personal Info entries to be sure you didn't indicate that you lived in PA.   You should only indicate that you earned income in PA.
