Why can't I file 4868 extension online any longer????

The TurboTax Easy Extension for e-filing an extension request will be available in mid-March

You can file a Form 4868 (Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return) electronically thru TurboTax. 

 

You can file your extension at our Easy Extension website or via the TurboTax program.

 

Filing an Extension:

1. Open your return (if not already open).
2. Enter "extension"  in the Search box.
3. Click on "Jump to extension" link.
4. Follow the instructions.

If you don't want to e-file your extension, you can file it by mail.

 

Download and print Form 4868, fill it out, and mail it before 11:59 PM on April 15, 2025. 

 

Payment and mailing instructions are on pages 3 and 4 of your printout.

 

 

Please be aware extending your return only extends the filing due date of your actual return.  Any tax due should be made by the April 15th filing due date to avoid any late filing penalties.

 

Please note: You should pay as much as you can to limit the amount of interest you’ll owe.  Also, you may be charged a late payment penalty on the unpaid tax from the regular due date of your return.
