Why are there only 8 numbers on my W2 for my employer state id number when there should be 9?

The EIN is in Box b and should be 9 digits - always.   But the state ID in box 15 can be anything.   Enter what is on your W-2; 8 digits for a state ID is okay.   If it gives you a warning, double-check what you entered and hit Continue.  It won't prevent e-filing.  

The important question is - is the food any good?
