Why am I not able to e-file a MN return when claiming the Frontline worker pay? I have claimed the income on the Federal return.

You are able to create a Minnesota state tax return but you are not able to electronically file the tax return.

In the Minnesota tax return, were you able to remove the income at the screen Frontline Worker Pay?  Did you remove the same dollar amount on the Minnesota state tax return that you reported as income on the Federal 1040 tax return?

What error message are you receiving when you attempt to electronically file?  Please clarify.

I added the frontline worker pay to my Federal Income as Miscellaneous income, 1099-a 1099-c for $487.

On the MN return on the frontline worker pay screen I entered 487.

When it checks my return it says we found 1 item on you MN return we'll need you to review the entry.

I hit fix return button.

It takes me to line 29 of schedule M1M which I have 487.00 in

I run smart check again it takes me to the same line item saying there is an issue.

I have already added it to my federal income.

It will let me print and mail in return, not efile.

Have already paid so it will not let me remove, then reinsert frontline pay into my federal income.

Is 487 showing on the Federal return on Schedule 1?

Was it added to your Adjusted Gross income (1040 line 11) ?

On the Minnesota return, did you try entering 487.45 and let the program round it down?

If the amount is included in your Adjusted Gross Income on your federal return, it should be listed and adjusted on line 29 of the M1M.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please respond back with the Token Number that was generated.

You have the Frontline Worker Pay entered as Any Other Earned Income which puts in on the wrong line of the 1040.  If you enter it as Miscellaneous Income, it will go to the Schedule 1 and then you will be able to subtract it from your Minnesota state return. @shaun-anderson1

How do I make that change, I've tried to edit but will not let me make the change as I have already paid.

Follow these steps:

  1. log into your return
  2. go to federal income
  3. scroll down to  the bottom Miscellaneous income, start/edit
  4. look at the list and notice the top line and the bottom line, that is the problem. Your income is in the top line and needs to be in the bottom line. See the picture from above.
  5. click on the top line, Other Income not already reported on a w2, edit/ update
  6. delete the MN frontline worker pay.
  7. scroll down to the very bottom of the page, the bottom of the Miscellaneous income
  8. locate other reportable income, start/ edit
  9. enter your MN frontline worker income

Now it will correctly carry to your MN return.
