Why am I being charged when I’m supposed to have the free edition?

How do I change it back to the free edition before I file

You might be charged for TurboTax if your tax situation requires forms or schedules that are not covered by the Free Edition.

The Free Edition is only for simple Form 1040 returns without additional schedules, except for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and student loan interest.

Here are the steps to:

Steps to Switch Back to the Free Edition

  1. Log in to TurboTax and open your current tax return.
  2. In the left side menu, select "Switch Products"
  3. Choose "Downgrade" to switch to the Free Edition

Clear and Start Over:

  • You can also downgrade your product without erasing all your info.:
    • Go to the left-side menu, select "Tax Tools," then "Clear & Start Over".
    • Confirm by selecting "Yes" in the pop-up
