State is currently only $40. State is extra in all versions except the Free Edition. Also you are posting from Live. Live is a much higher cost.

There are no e-file fees when using the TurboTax online editions, federal or state.
There is an additional charge if you include a state tax return when using the Deluxe online edition or higher, currently $40 for each state tax return.

Extremely annoying. I upgrade for $90, then get the honor of paying an addition $50 to transfer a few documents over to state taxes. Meanwhile, there is a free option to do so. Thanks Turbo Tax. Upgrade seems totally worth it.
Had this same issue... Paid $90 for premiere just to get slapped with a $50 state fee WHEN IT COST NOTHING on the free edition! Milking us dry
I paid $60 for the turbo tax, but also got a $50 charge for my South Carolina state tax. why?
$60 is for Deluxe Federal. Then state is another $50 in Deluxe and above.

I use the Turbo tax Home and Business, I can get one free state tax, however when I went to file the Indiana, they wanted to deduct $40.00 from my federal return or have me pay with a CC, I chose to mail the state in, since the refund was only $6, makes no sense.

You receive one free state program download with the Home & Business edition. Not a free state e-file. The state e-file fee is currently $20, so printing and mailing the state return was a wise choice. Also, the $40 charge would have been if you wanted to pay the TurboTax state e-file fee with your federal tax refund. Again, another wise choice for not choosing that option.
And to be clear it was an extra $40 to take the $20 state efile fee out of a federal refund. So $60 total. Or $20 by credit card or free to print and mail state.
I paid $60 for Deluxe (without state), about what I pay for Deluxe with state each year purchased from Sam's Club. The only way to get state is to pony up $40 in the program. I've never efiled my state tax after doing it on TurboTax Deluxe in the past. $100 for fed and state = ripoff, especially when the fact there is no state include is in the fine print. Don't call it Deluxe if it doesn't match the website description.
