Which version of TurboTax desktop when selling primary residence

I sold my primary residence and will owe taxes since the profit was more than the exclusion.  I saw that I could use TurboTax Deluxe desktop, but then saw a comment that TurboTax might then suggest an upgrade to Premier desktop.  Why do they suggest that and what would Premier provide related to the sale of a house that Deluxe doesn’t provide?

Yes you can use the Desktop Deluxe version.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  Turbo Tax will recommend upgrading but you don't have to.  If you get Deluxe and decide you want to use the Premier version you can upgrade from inside the program.

There is more help using the Premier edition when reporting the sale of a home on a tax return.

However, the Deluxe desktop edition can be used without upgrading to the Premier desktop edition as this is only a recommendation and not a requirement.

All the TurboTax desktop editions have the all the same forms, schedules and worksheets.  You only receive more help as you upgrade to the higher priced desktop editions.
