Where is the import feature for crypto csv on Premier desktop 2020

I can't find a way to import the CVS file from RH on the desktop version of Turbotax Premier 2020

Is this version still not update it to take cryto information yet? is it only online like last year?

From the Robinhood website:

How do I enter my crypto tax documents into TurboTax?

  1. After logging into TurboTax, go to Wages & Income and choose the “Cryptocurrency Start” button. If you don’t see it in this section, it may be located under Investment Income.
  2. Choose “Yes” for the “Did you sell or trade cryptocurrency in 2020?” question.
  3. On the “Let's get your cryptocurrency info” screen, choose the Robinhood icon select Continue, and then upload your .CSV Consolidated Form 1099. You can also enter it manually by choosing “I’ll type my info.”
  4. Continue through the rest of the process to finish submitting your cryptocurrency income.

You can directly import up to 250 transactions this way.

There is no option for "Cryptocurrency Start" in the Investment Income section of Wages & Income in the desktop version of 2020 TurboTax Premier. Other suggestions?

Use these steps:

  1. Click on Federal > Wages & Income.
  2. In the Investment Income section click on the Start/Revisit box next to Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
  3. If you have already entered some investment sales, you will see a screen Here's the investment sales info we have so far.  Click on the Add More Sales link.
  4. Click the Yes box on the screen Did you get a 1099-B or a brokerage statement for these sales?
  5. On the screen, Choose your bank or brokerage, click on the box I'll type it myself.
  6. Enter the name of the bank or brokerage and click Continue.
  7. On the screen, Tell us about your [XX] 1099-B, mark the button I'll enter a summary for each sales category.
  8. Boxes will appear for you to enter the proceeds, basis, and category.  After entering your information for this category, click the Done box.
  9. On the screen, Do you have another sale to enter from your Big Bucks Brokerage 1099-B? mark the appropriate button.
  10. If you marked YesSale #2 - Tell us about your [XX] 1099-B screen will appear to enter the information on another category.
  11. Continue entering summaries of the transactions for all the categories.  When you are finished, on the screen Do you have another sale... mark the No box and click Continue.
  12. The next screen will be a summary of your entries:  Here's all the sales reported by [XX].  You can EditDelete, or Add a transaction.
  13. For the instructions to mail in your statements, click on the instructions link underneath the table of transactions.

If you use the online version of Premier, you can upload your CSV file from Robinhood (or elsewhere), but there is no place to upload the CSV file on the desktop version. If you use the online version, save it to your desktop, and then open it with your desktop software, it will NOT load the CSV info. Using the desktop version, you will have to load every single transaction, line by line. I had over 300 lines so I ended up having to pay for the online version and request a refund for the desktop version after spending hours on calls with TurboTax representatives. It's a gross waste of time. I hope me explaining this helps someone else so they don't have the same problem!

When I attempt to upload my .csv file from robinhood, it fails citing "no headers found in this file". I have gone through and reformatted the headers as robinhood stipulates, but still get the same error. I am using a mac. Is there some way to get around this? I know this has been happening with coinbase users, but I have not read any other reviews for this issue from robinhood. Thanks.

It looks like I might run into this situation (where you can't import the csv in the desktop version). Huge waste of time and poor explanation from both sales and the search options in the product. This should be called out as a limitation in the desktop version

You may be able to convert your .csv file to a .txt file and upload it into TurboTax Desktop Premier version.

Follow these steps:

  • Create a .csv file with all transactions using the format shown at Easytxf.
  • Used Easytxf to convert the .csv file into .txf file.
  • Import .txf file into Turbotax Desktop:   File / Import / From Accounting Software / Other Financial Software (TXF) file /  Continue / Choose a File to Import / Import now.

A 1099-B with all Crypto transactions is now created.   This entry can now be edited to include the account details.  Each transaction can be edited as well.

The entries will be found under Federal Taxes / Wages & Income / Investment Income / Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.

What a poor design! And I can't transfer my partially completed return to the online version to take advantage of the crypto feature online... You've got to be kidding me Intuit!!

You could always start your return online and transfer to desktop after entering your crypto transactions to the online version. Then after entering online, go to file>open new return>Continue from TurboTax Online. And your transactions will convert after signing on. Currently, online is the only way to import crypto.

So now I have to start my taxes over in order to enter crypto... Thanks for the suggestion, but DEFINITELY NOT IDEAL.

Has anyone tried MichaelG81's workaround to see if it works? I don't want to waste any more time.

Yeah, that seems to be the only option.
