It's still there in the upper left part of your screen. Select the arrow by 'Explain my taxes' to view.

It is showing that you are in the Online version of TurboTax.

The screen dose toggle back and forth to show the tax meter.

As @sharonspringsipscom stated, it is on the top left side

When you first login, and you are at the Tax Home it does not show.

Once you are in the return, entering information, or in the review section of the return, then the top information starts to show.

Let us know if you continue having difficulties with this.

I still dont see it.  I have the same challenge as original poster.  I dont see explain my taxes nor do I see the running tax number.

The running total of your refund or tax due doesn't show up until you enter all of your income and do the Federal Review.

If you want to see the monitor, after you enter your first income document, you can skip to Federal Review.  Once you do the review and return to your income, you will see a running total.

Having the same issue - long-time user, also.

How is the average user supposed to know that?

Can we please ask Intuit to go back to the original format, where it always shows the progress of what you owe or refunded?

I did as you suggested. Entered a couple of income documents. Went through the review and stopped short of entering payment info.  The progress amount due/refunded is still not showing.

This is nuts and I hope turbotax fixes it for next year so that it always shows at top, from your very first income entry.

This is a case study on not knowing your client base.   It's very important to see if what you are doing makes sense.  There can probably be some case study on the executives and developers not being in touch.

There is at least one competitor that says you can import Turbotax into their returns.  If they keep running totals- this will likely be my last year on TT.

Just spent an hour on the phone with a TurboTax "Product Expert" and they didn't have a clue how to turn on the Running Meter. I've used TurboTax for 12 years and that meter would ALWAYS be there from the beginning, and update as soon as you entered any tax info.  So, what this TT pro is saying: If you have to get to the federal review stage, in order to see the running meter at top of screen, that is essentially entering ALL of your tax info. That's pretty lame and NOT helpful! Makes me reconsider using turbo tax and will look into other software...

The Desktop installed program still has it.  I can tell you how to switch to Desktop.

Agreed, I'm done with the online version, it's garbage compared to the old software version.  Sure am getting more curious as to how the competitors workflow and features are.  Intuit is really solidifying themselves as the customer unfriendly financial software to maximize profits.  Same silliness happening in QuickBooks driving long time users away.

I do not see a running total. Does this appear after you have put all your information in.  I am using the online version.

You can activate the Refund Meter by completing the Federal review

On the main menu on the left side

  • Under Federal
  • Click the Review tab
  • You must make all of the corrections
  • The Federal and State refund meters will appear.

@dcb645   I still have the refund monitor in my Windows Desktop program.  You can switch to the Desktop program.  We can tell you how to move your return to Desktop even without paying for Online.
