I'm self-employed and use TurboTax to calculate my returns each year. I'd like to find out if I've been paying into California unemployment so I can collect some of it back since I'm not working currently. Where in my returns will I find if I was in fact paying into unemployment?
Surely you would know if you had been paying into the CA unemployment system, wouldn't you?

Thank you. Your first answer could have been completely omitted. I wouldn't be asking if I knew that answer. The .PDF is helpful but doesn't answer my question. Thank you for taking the time, however I'm still seeking an answer to my question.
As a self-employed person, it is extremely important that you keep careful records of all your income and expenses. The link that I gave you above says this:
"Self-employed individuals, who are not employers, may only elect SDI coverage for themselves."
and the SDI for self employed people is quite expensive! They want 4.99% of your Net Profit each year for SDI!
Some states allow for you to purchase private unemployment comp through an insurance company, but I don't know if CA is one of them.
As a self employed person in the state of California, you do not pay into unemployment for yourself. If you have employees, then you would be paying unemployment for your employees on the state quarterly payroll reports that are filed throughout the year.
