To enter the amount from box 6 of the 1099-PATR in TurboTax Self-Employed:

  • Continue working on your return in TurboTax Self-Employed. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click Tax Tools (lower left side of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the I'm looking for: box, type 8903.
  • In the results bar, highlight 8903, then click GO.
  • You'll land on Do you have any of these uncommon self-employed deductions? Check Domestic Production Activities (Form 8903), then click Continue
  • Any Domestic Production Activities? Click Yes.
  • Enter Info on the Form Below. Scroll down in Form 8903 and enter the information from box 6 of the 1099-PATR on line 23, then click Continue. (Click the screenshot below for reference.)

If using the TurboTax CD/Download software (desktop product), please follow the instructions provided by @TurboTaxJulieCo below.

I must be blind because I can't find anything called "Tools" and my searches for 8903 come up as dead ends.  All that is in the lower left is "Intuit Account" and "Sign Out".  Turbo Tax couldn't handle this last year, please don't tell me I am going to miss out on this deduction again.

I followed the directions, found tools, searched on 8903, and it took me to "Just checking for Form 1095-A" about HSAs. I searched on the verbiage you listed as well, and got the same thing. I am missing the very old option in TurboTax to "Jump to Forms!"

I already followed that route. It only allows you to enter Box 1 information. There is no avenue (that I can find) to enter Box 6: (Section199A(g) Deduction. I received a pass-through deduction from our farm elevator cooperative.

It is easy to find out where to input Box 1 Patronage Dividends in the income part, but following your suggested route, there is NO place to input a 1099-patr deduction.  Please advise further.

According to the IRS, Box 6 on the 1099-PATR was a 'Domestic Production Activity Deduction'.

Click this link for more info 1099-PATR Box 6.

"Section 199A(g) provides a deduction for Specified Agricultural or Horticultural Cooperatives (Specified Cooperatives) and their patrons similar to the deduction under former section 199, which was known as the domestic production activities deduction."

The Qualified Business Income Deduction has replaced this deduction.

Click this link for more info on Qualified Business Income (QBI) Deduction.

If you're not eligible for a QBI deduction, you could probably claim a deduction on your Schedule F.
