Where do i input last year's (2019) federal overpayment which is being held specifically to pay for 2020's taxes?

i opted to have the IRS keep $1500 from my refund last year to pay this year's taxes. I do see how to input for state and local; however, disappointingly,  It is not clear where the federal allotment should be input. I am a first time user of TurboTax so there is nothing I can download from last year's taxes. How do I input the overpayment being held from 2019's refund? This makes a huge difference in my return amount!

You can find the entry for an overpayment applied to your 2020 taxes in the Federal Taxes > Deductions and Credits > Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid > 2019 Refund Applied to 2020 section of your return.

Use the following steps to go there:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “applied overpayment” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to applied overpayment
  • Click on the blue “Jump to applied overpayment” link
  • Scroll down to the 2019 Refund Applied to 2020 section
  • Click Start or Update beside 2019 refund applied to 2020 Federal taxes to enter your information
