Form 2210, Underpayment of Estimated Tax is schedule to be available on 02/18/2021 (subject to change)
But the IRS has already posted the 2020 form 2210 as well as the 2020 instructions for the form
since IRS posted approved form and instructions on 2/11/2021, why does it take TurboTax over 1 week to upload this form so I can finally file???
It takes every tax software vendor time to get the final IRS form, make a mock-up that the IRS approves, code the XML generator that is used for the e-file format, write the code to populate the form, test the heck out of it not only on the 2210 itself but also every form that feeds into it and the form it feeds into (the 1040).
Of course, if you assume that there will be zero changes, you might do a lot of this before the final form is released by the IRS...but you have to balance the workloads of the 2210 accountant and programmers and testers with all the other last minute work that is going on as the IRS (and Congress) is changing the rules and forms for 2020 even now.
So announcing an estimated release date of 2/18/2021, just a week from now, is perfectly reasonable.
Well that didn't happen. Not too surprising. TT has dropped the ball and been exposed this year. Time to hire a TT team that gives a hoot.

The Form 2210 availability date has been pushed out to 02/25/2021

And in the meantime my penalty grows since I can't file and pay...
It is unacceptable that I will have to pay a higher penalty because Turbotax is unable to upload the updated 2210 form in a timely manner. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years but I will definitely be looking for a new tax preparation service next year.
It is now February 20, 2021. Please update me as to when form 2210 will be available so I can file my taxes through Turbotax
@kyanite114be This form will be available 2/25/2021. You can check the IRS forms availability here.
Okay Mr. Employee of TT and Tax Expert. Tell me if the "rounding error" issues so well chronicled in my posts and others have been fixed please. How would I know since your updates to TT do not give us any information about what they updated. And do not BS us about the "when the IRS gives us the form we do beta test, blah, blah, blah anymore. The 2210 has been available in print for 3 months. Hello. Do you think we are that naïve? I am tired of getting these responses daily from other TT users about the rounding errors issue because you cannot solve it.
The step-by-step interview for Premier version is also totally out of wack when trying to figure out the date periods to treat federal income tax withheld as paid on dates actually withheld instead of equal amounts on the payment due dates to figure out the tax penalty. Last update from 2/18/2021 did not even try to fix and clear up this mess to start with.
This "Turbo Tax" delay (IRS finalized this form early Feb) is costing me $$$. Used TT for years, time to move to new program for 2021. Totally unacceptable product support.
Latest promise by TT was the Form 2210 would be available today, but now shows "soon" and no idea when.
Can someone from TT please address and please get this completed ? This is getting ridiculous.
Will someone from TT please address when "soon" is???
TT is really doing it's reputation poorly by not reacting to the customer needs. Next year's share of market is rapidly decreasing and it is going to be long term clients like myself!!
You seem to be claiming an underpayment penalty increases the later you file a return. Really? You mean if you could file today (Feb 25) the penalty is less than it would be if you filed later, let's say Apr 15. I haven't had to deal with an underpayment penalty before, but I'm very surprised the penalty increases with time before the Apr 15 filing date. Are you sure?
Well, it is now 02/26/2021 and the TT IRS Forms Availability List still shows that form 2210 will be available on 02/25/2021 - And yet, it is still NOT available. What gives? The 02/25/2021 date was already a delayed date - from 02/18/2021. The IRS itself (not noted for its speed) made the 2020 form 2210 (and the applicable instructions) available on 02/09/2021. Why the unreasonable delay by TT? I have used TT for the past couple decades and dutifully paid the cost each year. This year the penalty I owe continues to increase each day of TT's delay. This is not the TT I have grown to rely upon. TT needs to make it right and release the form, or provide me (and obviously many others) with a refund for the program that I am unable to fully utilize because TT can't get their act together. Yes, I am frustrated.
It says it will be available on 2/25/21 but it still is not available.
The form 2210 is still not available even though it gave a date of 2/25/21.
Yes, penalty/interest increases every day. April 15 is not important for these calculations.
