Would like to know when I can start running different scenarios for 2025 taxes. Trying to find the best time to sell rental property in the next few years.

Currently, we do not have estimated time when 2025 software will be released. Generally we release towards the end of the year and hopefully timeline will be same this year too. Capital gain tax rates are same as before with no changes in BBB.

Thanks for participating in TurboTax's Ask the Expert event today. I hope this information was helpful!

The TurboTax desktop programs for tax year 2025 should be available for purchase in mid-November.  The TurboTax online editions for tax year 2025 should be available in early December.

When will Schedule C be available? TurboTax for sole proprietors is useless without it. I have TurboTax installed, but can't actually do anything.

I don't know the direct answer to your question, but my guess would be mid-December.

I use the version that is made for tax professionals (ProSeries), and even though they release it in early November, it is a waste of time until the mid-December update (I think it is scheduled for December 17th).   I suspect that TurboTax is similar.

It is December 17th for TurboTax as well.

I only see a draft "C" on the IRS site. That should get you close enough for drafts of Government work. TT will not update until the IRS does.

Why did I bother subscribing to annual purchasing and early release of turbo tax?  It is of no value for my home and business tax preparation without being able to enter my self employment section.  I absolutely need to know the extrapolated tax scenarios for possible 401k contributions and their effect on QBI, taxable income, etc. and what I can afford to take as income (roth conversions) before crossing thresholds for IRMAA for example.  This all has to be done by Dec. 31st.

And it should be functional by mid-December.

Because Intuit's marketing team is FAR, FAR better than the managers of the development team.  They convince you to buy early for mostly-useless software.

While the December 17th update will likely add a lot to the program, it still may not suit your needs.  For the things you are talking about, it very often isn't useful until mid-January or later.

Boy, to coin a phrase, "Ain't that the truth". On the other hand, they have at least one thing in common; neither team cares about what their customers want or need.

To be fair, it is quite possible that some of the development "team" care (in the past, I've seen some positive responses), but those who manage that team do not allow those things.

I think you're spot on and I should have been more specific; the people running the show (management) are the ones who are totally insensitive to customers' feedback and desires in terms of their products.

@user17638275602 - did you try using Forms View?

I need TurboTax 2025 desktop soon to do my year-end planning.  When will it be available?

The TurboTax desktop editions for tax year 2025 are available now for purchase and download from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

@grahamseib do note that as of now many provisions of the recent tax law changes and even older sections are not ready or have not been incorporated into TT2025. many state returns aren't available yet.  just an alert so you realize that the actual results for 2025 could differ significantly from what you get using the current version.

I paid for 2025 Premier edition to get a jump on some calculations. However, it says "this version is NOT compatible with the Mac, version , Xyz. However, now after digging - it looks like the 2025 version has not been released.
No big deal - but would have preferred to not place an order.

@lkuenste   What Mac OS do you have?   For 2025 You will need Mac OS Sonoma 14 or later

What did you find that 2025 has not been released?  The Desktop program was released in early November.

Also, with the increased personal deduction for seniors, how much of my IRA I can rollover before the end of the year.

@paradisepro if you're comfortable with forms mode and what you need to enter, then the sections that are currently not available are probably available at forms level tho I've not tried entering Schedule D or 1099-R that way.

If you are trying to estimate tax on an IRA conversion to Roth (is that you mean by "rollover"), you would also need the tax calculation on Form 8606 if you have any basis in the IRA.  You can also calculate by hand how much of the conversion would be taxable and possibly just put that in as a 1099-INT to get it into ordinary income.

It may be simpler to work with a different online tool for estimation, folks have recommended this

Is there any current update on Sale of Home for 2025 release?  I really need to do some planning before 12/31 and this function is still outstanding.

I bought h and r block premier and it is fully functional. I will say however that it’s not as user friendly as TurboTax but it works!

it seems like almost anything i click on in the 2025 desktop version says "not available yet".

how can they sell a product that says it has various features but most of those features don't exist.

would people still buy it if they understood that most tax return items are "not available yet"??
