When will Form 8915-E be available? TurboTax indicates "IRS instructions related to disaster distributions weren't ready in time for this release." It's been weeks now.

I tried filing 2/12 but that form wasn't available.  Came back to file today, 2/22, still nothing. It's the last document I need for completion.

No, it is not ready yet, but it is scheduled to be ready by the end of the week!    You can use the link below to sign up and be notified when it is available.  If you took a distribution from a retirement account due to coronavirus-related issues, you will be able to waive the penalty and spread the ordinary tax over tax years 2020-2022.    Once the forms are final (should be by the weekend), you will see the options to apply the tax relief provisions on Form 8915-E.

Please sign-up here and we will email you once the form is live.

I have Turbo Tax Home Business and it doesn't show an update. I've checked for updates and nothing.

Was that the web filing or desktop version when you filed yours?

Today is 2/25, it is not on the Desktop Home and Business version.  I’m spreading the tax over 3 years. You will want to consider this if it will put you into a better status for getting the next stimulus payment.

So I am finally able to complete for 8915-E however now I cannot get past NY state filing and receiving this message:

Check This Entry

Pension/Annuities/IRA Worksheet: Txble Pens/IRA(Reg Dist) We're still working on updates related to Retirement Distributions that qualify for disaster or covid relief. You can keep working on your return and we'll remove this message when it's ready.

I cannot find any information on this online.

Those reporting it available all seem to be using the online version. As stated here, it is not expected to be e-filable until tomorrow. Perhaps the desktop won't update until tomorrow.

There's a different page that states it's available to efile today (I just completed that a few minutes ago) and the return was accepted by the feds. The trick is to go back into the 1099 and edit that, don't make any changes, and then new screens will show up.

@Shannara Are you using the desktop or online version of TT? When I make edits to the 1099-R using the desktop version there are no updates. Furthermore, form 8915-E does not appear in the lists of forms.

right. i just got off the phone with a turbo tax CPA, he stated that the form will not be available until tomorrow. when filing the 1099-R, he stated at the end there will be a box that you click and it takes you to the Coronavirus Relief Section. He stated it will be available on all software EXCEPT the free one
