The Form 2106 is available now.

Are you an Armed Forces reservists, qualified performing artists, fee-basis state or local government officials, and employees with impairment-related work expenses?  If not, then your employee business expenses are not deductible on a federal tax return due to the changes in the tax code for tax years 2018 thru 2025.

To enter employee business expenses and home office -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Employment Expenses
  • On Job-Related Expenses, click on the start or update button

Or enter employee business expenses in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to employee business expenses

Donin - Another question. When I started doing this the other way, I was able to write off the cost of gas electric, water, etc. Is that no longer included?

If you referring to a Home Office as an employee business expense, that is also not a deductible employee business expense in 2018.

Hi. Yes, I am trying to write off my Home Office as i have previously. It usually included the space (area), furniture, equipment, utilities, and phone/internet.
So, I'm sorry, you're saying I cannot write any of that off anymore?

Correct, you cannot deduct the Home Office anymore as an employee business expense.
