When imported w2 it linked to my spouse instead of my name.after the drop down changed to my name, federal tax owed 7k. If filing jointly, shouldn’t total tax be same?

When I imported w2 my w2 was assigned to my spouse instead of my name. Once I changed the drop down to my name my federal tax owed increased 7k. Why would that be the case if we file jointly and we both work? Would the total tax owed be the same since we are one entity regardless of how the w2 are tagged in TurboTax?

The most likely scenario is as follows.  If there was a W-2 that had already been entered for your wife and the combination of the two W-2s together created an excess amount of Social Security tax being withheld, then the excess would have been included as part of your tax return, reducing your balance due by the amount of the excess Social Security tax.  When you assigned the W-2 to yourself to correct the error, that excess amount no longer applied and therefore the balance due increased.
