When I select the county I lived in in Ohio and hit continue, it doesn't allow me to advance, it brings up an error message that I "need to select a county."

I am assuming that other choices like this have worked before and it is this one field that is posing the problem.

Could be a number of things. Best place to start is save the file, close Turbotax, then re-open it to give it a fresh chance to load itself correctly.  If you are doing this on line, you may need to close and re-open the browser.

If it re-occurs. search for the phrase "need to select a county." or "select county" here. If no one else has posted a similar question on the Ohio return, then before contacting Turbotax help, save, close everything down and re-boot the computer and try once more. this can save time on the phone, as it often is the first thing a help desk will ask you to do.

The Turbotax help desk does have a call back feature. You may need their help in downloading a new state file or update. Downloads can get corrupted. or even a new CD can have a tiny flaw. one 0 that should be a 1 is all it takes.

Been there, done that, lots. You have my sympathy.

Using TurboTax online and I just ran into the same problem. Attempted logging out, quitting my browser and using a different browser, but the Ohio return still will not let me select a county or move forward. Has anyone been able to make it work?

Nope it doesn't work. I feel that they have intentionally created a bug to ensure people chose the paid version. Because this issue is not any browser dependent.  I tried with all different browsers but it doesn't work.

You also can't contact Technical support either.

I've got the same exact problem.

I skipped everything for Ohio and went to through the auto-check for the form. There I skipped over everything until I found the county line and entered the county info manually.  I skipped everything else, and then I could go back through the guided form and it had the county selected and I could proceed from there.

I FIGURED IT OUT!! Okay so I don't know where we initially went wrong, but if you're at the end of filing your tax return, you should be able to go back to the State section and edit it. So under federal, you will see state. Click State, click continue, edit {your state} status, and then choose the first "General Information" category that you see. There it will eventually ask you to pick your county again which should already be good but it will give you an opportunity to FINALLY enter that school district from there. Praise the message haha
