When I downloaded this app it said it was free I was just charged $180 dollars that is bogus

Bogus indeed.  I had similar instance just today.  Their site says free, free, free but you wind up getting charged. My situation may be different than yours, but my deductions did not exceed the "generous" federal amount set (sarcasm). At this point TurboTax should throw you to the EZ form and you are done. Instead, because I itemized for calculation purposes, they threw me to the pay version.  I have been looking for places to make sure they know, that I know what they are doing and to reassure them I will NEVER use this software again.  This whole tax situation is a scam designed to bilk more middle class taxpayers out of money. TT knows their days are numbered so they are bilking customers while they can. Shame on you TT.

You are able to begin your tax return using TurboTax Free Edition, but if you do not qualify for it, you will be prompted to upgrade.
