When I do the Federal Return Error check, I get a missing entry in Form 1116

When I do the Federal Return Error check, I get a missing entry in Form 1116. Earlier as I was in the section about Foreign Taxes Paid, I received a message from Turbo Tax that the IRS hadn't completed information about Form 1116, and it would be corrected later. Is that issue causing this error? In past years everything was entered by Turbo Tax for the Foreign Tax Paid. Can I E-File my Return now or do I have to wait for the Form 1116 to be corrected?

Form 1116 is not yet approved for e-file, so you may have to wait until about February 24 to file your return.

The error you are showing is easily fixed and in some cases, Form 1116 is not required.

If your foreign tax is from Form 1099-DIV, you can just select Method Paid and you may be able to submit the return.

If the foreign tax is from something else such as a K-1, foreign earnings or royalties, you will need to check your source document to see if the taxes were paid or accrued.

JulieS,

Thanks for the response. I will check this out the next time that I work on my return.

Clicking on "Method: Paid" seems to have worked for me. No errors now in the Federal Error check. Thanks!
