When do use home and business version vs self employed version of turbo tax

I used the business version in the past but this year the upfront questions directed me to the self employed version. If I upgrade will all my work on the self employed version be lost? be lost

They are actually one and the same. TurboTax Self-Employed is the online version of TurboTax Home and Business Desktop software.

If you used TurboTax Business (S-Corps, LLCs, etc) last year, that version is offered for desktop only.
