Box 14 if the 1099-INT is Tax exempt and tax credit bond CUSIP

A CUSIP is a 9 digit alpha/numeric identification number.

It is used to identify:

  • stocks of all registered U.S. and Canadian companies,
  • commercial paper, and
  • U.S. government and municipal bonds.

But my bank CUSIP provided is only 7 digits, not 9 and this creates an error and I cannot file.

Is it OK to leave it blank instead?

Thanks!

Yes, you can leave the CUSIP field blank - it is not required and an empty field will not cause an error.  You will be able to e-file.  @BFMa
