After filing I received an additional 1099-DIV form for $16 in dividends. I began filing an amendment to include that on my tax return. Turbotax estimated I owe an additional $574 dollars to the IRS even though the $16 didn't put me into the next tax bracket. I spoke to a Turbotax representative on the phone who told me to call the IRS before submitting my amendment, so I canceled the amendment. Now when I download my return from Turbotax, it contains the extra $16 on the original return, and doesn't include a 1040-X at all. It makes it seem like I included the $16 from the start. I did not include it and now the tax return I submitted and the tax return Turbotax thinks I submitted are different. What should I do?
After you cancelled the amended return did you take out the 16 dividend and put your return back to the original?
Go back in and take out the 1099Div.
Click on Add a State to let you back into your return.
From Tax Home (the first screen you see after you sign in), scroll down to Your tax returns & documents. You may have to select Show to open the drop down.
Select 2020, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this is just the workaround).
