You can request a payment plan with the IRS either at the time of filing your tax return, or separately. To do so, you will file Form 9465 Installment Agreement Request.
If you think you may be able to pay your balance due by April 18, 2022 for the 2021 Federal taxes, you may not need to file the installment agreement request. If you electronically file your return now, you will still have until the due date to actually pay the balance due.
