What is the form 760-ES needed for? I paid all my state taxes. Is this an additional payment that needs to be done?

I owed $369 dollars to Virginia and I have paid that off.  I e-filed, yet I'm looking at my Federal return and it tells me I need to send a check to Commissioner of Revenue in Richmond. I am confused - didn't I pay all my state taxes?

If you owed taxes (federal or state), a payment voucher for the current year is automatically included with the forms and schedules that would normally be included in a paper return.

That function of the program, producing the forms and schedules required for filing, does not know if you subsequently choose another method of paying your taxes.

The same procedure applies for 2017 Estimated Payment vouchers (Form 760-ES); you aren't required to do anything with them - they are printed for your convenience if you decide to make estimated payments for your 2017 taxes
