What is the easiest way to file tax return 1040 form if I work on W-2

What is the easiest way to file tax return 1040 form if I have been working on W-2 the whole year (2024)?

I had no other income.

I lived the entire year in PA (Pennsylvania) state, they have income tax with flat rate.

Am I correct I need two form - federal and for the state? How can I do that? Thank you.

It depends what you mean by working on your W2 for the entire year. if you have a job, your employer will furnish you one form that will report your federal earnings, income tax paid. On the bottom of the form will have your state information including income tax paid to PA.

Typically W2's are mailed out by Jan 31 but you may receive yours prior to this date. Wait until you receive this before preparing your return.

Thank you, Dave.

I understand that. Yes, I will wait until I receive this form from my employer.

I mean - how to submit two forms (federal and state) in TurboTax?

Do both of these options required payment? Or it comes as a one single package?

The federal is one price and the state is an additional fee. Some people use many states so the fees need to be separate. The program will guide you through the options to pay and file.

Thank you. Now it's getting more and more clear.

And to clarify if even more - does the program allow to make state and federal payments, in case I owe some taxes?

I have found out that my employer only PARTIALLY withholds taxes and sends them to the federal and state government. The required amount is a bit higher than they have sent. So I need to pay that difference. Is it possible in TurboTax?

If you only have W2 income you can probably use the Free Edition.  It is free for both.

Otherwise the state is currently $39.  You can pay the total of both at the end when you file or have the fees deducted from a federal refund for an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California).

Yes.  When you reach the end of the tax preparation the program will show any taxes you owe and give you options in order to pay those taxes.
