What is the difference between divorced and single? I was divorced in 2002. I have been filingassingle is that an error?

If you have not remarried then use Single.

Divorced is only used to ask questions to determine the proper filing status.

There is no filing status as Divorced.  You are Single.  It just asks if you are divorced to ask you more questions later about your divorce.  It's not important.
