What if I'm not a full time student, yet I have a job and live with my parents?

Like I go to school part time and work part time, I also pay rent, car repairs, gas, and etc. Can my mom claim me as a dependent?

If you are over age 18 and earn more than $4,200 you can’t be a dependent.

It depends, but since you work and pay for rent and other living expenses, your mom probably cannot claim you as a dependent.

If you are age 19 or older and not a full-time student, your mom can claim you as a dependent if:

  • Your gross income is less than $4,200 for the year
  • Your Mom provides more than half of your total support
