What if I filed my taxes before I got my 1095 in the mail without knowing it? Do I get penalized?

It depends on what type of 1095 you have received.  If it was a 1095-B or C - then as long as you indicated that you had health insurance in the interview, you are fine.  That form is just to keep for your records.

If it was a Form 1095-A, then you need to include that on your return.  You may need to amend your return to include the Form 1095A.  But, it's more likely that the IRS is going to send you a letter in a few weeks asking you to send them Form 8962 before they will process your return and issue a refund.

If it's a Form 1095-A, then you can use the article below to help you once you receive the letter.  But, you should wait for it first as it will have specific information for you to send the form to.
