What if I didn't get a 1099c?

What if debt was canceled however the collection agency did not send a 1099c? What is the correct reporting when a1099c is not received?

You should not report it if you did not receive a 1099-C. The reason is these things will often show up in the following year. You do not want to try and report it this year when they don't issue the cancellation until the next year.

Please clarify the reason that a 1099-C was not issued. In the answer above it seems that the organization has not yet canceled the debt.

I have absolutely no way of knowing what the organization has done. But, from experience, this is what often happens. You would have to check with the company to find out if the debt has actually been cancelled. I've seen the 1099-C get reported two years later when a client thought that the matter was resolved. I have also seen instances when a 1099-C never gets issued.
