What happens when taxes aren’t approved

It just means the IRS has not yet approved your tax return.  What happens now?  You have to wait on the IRS.  It's not TurboTax, once you've filed your returns and they've been accepted, TurboTax has noting to do with the process.  Three weeks to process a return and the refund is normal.

Helped me know your not responsible at this point but I was more asking what to expect if that is the case how would I know what would be the next action to take

Just sit tight, and wait for the IRS to do its job.  They will notify you if they need anything else.
