That is probably The New York Paid Family Leave Program.  Box 14 items are informational only, which means they don't need to be entered on your tax return.  Your employer probably just wants you to know how much you were paid while out on paid family leave.

The acronym sounds right but since I have it too and I did not take any paid family leave, it is probably how much you paid into the program.

Yes, with this code and dollar amount in box 14, the employer is telling you how much premium that you/they paid to the program.

Yes - that seems right that it is the amount my employer paid on my behalf into that program. However since TurboTax picked it up in box 14 without any code, the system is asking me to select the correct category manually. There is no choice there that looks obviously best - what should I choose?

Use one of the last two choices in the dropdown menu, @rdryfoos:

  • Other deductible state or local tax, or
  • Other (not classified)

There is an excellent discussion on this at: On this year's New York State W-2 in Box 14 there is "NYPFL" and “NYDBL”. What category description should I choose for these box 14 entries?
