In order to best assist you we need some additional details. At what point of the filing process were you when you got this message? Were you transmitting your federal return, state, or both? Did you receive confirmation that the return(s) have been filed?

If you want to remove audit defense from your tax return, follow these steps.

  • Go to the REVIEW tab, then click the subtab AUDIT PROTECTION.
  • Navigate past the Audit Risk Meter,
  • Place a checkmark in the checkbox at the bottom of the screen to cancel the order for Audit Defense.

You are probably receiving this message because  Pay With My Refund can only deduct your TurboTax fees from your federal refund.

Can I pay the TurboTax fee with my state refund?

If you haven't filed your taxes yet, please log back to TurboTax. On the left navigation bar, click File tab. Revisit step 2 to change the way you would like to pay your state taxes. You will first see the selection you made for federal, and then it will take you to state selection.

Note: Although you can e-file your federal and state taxes together, if you choose to e-file your federal first, you'll have to wait until that return has been accepted before you can e-file your state.

How do I e-file my state after I already filed my federal?
