Federal tax due near the top of your screen means you owe that amount to the IRS. If you're still working on your return, those numbers will likely change as you enter more items. Your tax due amount may even be replaced by a tax refund by the time you finish doing your taxes.

Please see the TurboTax FAQ below:

Does "Federal tax due" mean I owe the government, or does it mean they owe me?

Does this number include last years if you are still paying?

No it does not.  Only for tax year 2019.

No.  The tax due or refund is only for the current year you are working on.  The IRS doesn't tell Turbo Tax anything about your account or past taxes you owe.

To see back taxes owed

https://www.irs.gov/uac/view-your-tax-account

NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

Do you have to pay the full amount at one time

No, but you have to have it fully paid by the due date of the return, which in most cases is 04/18/2023.   Please visit the IRS's payment page to see all of your payment options.   And you don't have to make any tax payments through TurboTax.   You can select ''I will send a check'' and make your payments directly to the IRS.      @Reneepullum
