What am I supposed to put in the locality box on my 1099 from unemployment when its blank? It keeps rejecting my return because that box is empty.

That is normally due to something being in the previous boxes for locality taxes, for example.  If there is an amount for locality taxes on your 1099 but no locality you should contact the 1099 issuer to find out who they paid those taxes to.

If there is nothing in the other locality boxes, then go back into TurboTax and edit the 1099 in the "Income & Expenses" tab.  Delete it and re-enter the information to be sure there are no stray entries in any locality boxes.  Leave them blank.

Do I need to amend it or will I be able to delete, redo it, and they'll see it?

You mention that your return has been rejected.  Since that is the status, the return is now back with you.  You can sign in and make the changes and then resubmit per the instructions in your rejection email.

There is no amendment necessary since your return has not been accepted by the IRS yet.

After resubmission you will again get a couple of emails.  They will be from the IRS and your state tax agency and will show either acceptance or rejection.

If a rejection, follow the instruction to correct and resubmit again.

If an acceptance , you are good to go.

That doesn’t work. Turbo tax says you can leave it blank if the1099 is blank, but the refuses to e- file if you don’t fill it in

Are all of the locality boxes empty?   Make sure that you do not have something in one of the boxes that is making TurboTax think that you should have additional information.   Based on your question, double-check and make sure that Box 10a, 10b, Box 11, locality, and local income tax withheld all are blank.

If that does not work then, delete your cookies, delete the form and reboot your computer and then go back into TurboTax and re-enter the 1099-G.
