My issue is that a second Annuity IRA was supposed to be used to cover the balance of my spouse's total RMD withdrawal. It did not get done due to the death of her older brother creating a distraction. We completed the correct withdrawal on April 7, 2025. Is it still appropriate to request a waiver?
In the case of the death of the person who was supposed to handle the RMD requesting a waiver seems not only appropriate but almost a given.
Unfortunately, my brother-in-law had no role in completing the RMD withdrawal. His death created an upsetting event that caused the non-submission of the RMD withdrawal request due to the emotional involvement of my wife.
Ah, sorry. I misunderstood.
Either way 'Death in the Family' seems a pretty good reason to request an abatement of the penalty. Worst case scenario the IRS says 'no', right?
