We are unmarried but share a child, can we file jointly if one claims head of household?

If you aren't married, then you can't file jointly.

You have three options:

  • $12,000 for Single or Married Filing Separately,
  • $18,000 for Head of Household,
  • $24,000 for Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Widow(er).
