Will it affect my tax return?

No. Please spell the employer name as it is presented on your W-2 (even if it is incorrect). The EIN is what really matters.

My employer name and EIN are correct on my W2, but TurboTax Deluxe for 2021seems to be getting confused by an ampersand in the name and won't accept a manual correction. Any solution?

It appears that the work around is to fix it in the forms. It is getting butchered by the EasyStep process. Just go to the W2 form and make the correction.

It's unfortunate that this problem seems to have been around since 2020.

Thanks. That seems to have done the trick.

I also can't seem to "correct"  the pop up indicating that a wildly overstated figure for Social Security withholding. (It is not the amount input from the actual W2, and it somehow only impacts one of the three W2s on my return.

Delete that W2 and enter it again.  Leave the cents off box 4.  And be sure each W2 is assigned to the right spouse if married.

My short term disability payments had taxes deducted for state I dont live in. How do I get credit for that deduction, because now the state I do live in, says I owe taxes

Thanks VolvoGirl - that seems to have done the trick.

Complete a non resident return to get the withholding back.  If you file that state first you should have the refund back in time to pay the resident state bill by 4/18.

I can't manually correct the W2 ampersand "&". I thought the info needs to match the W2 from our employer. How is leaving the mumbo jumbo "&, etc" going to get processed by the IRS. Is TurboTax working on an update to get this fixed? I would like to get my taxes filed.

How do I fix the "&" issue in forms? Is it at the end once you are almost ready to file?

Ola, check your actual return using the "Forms" option, rather than the "Step By Step".  The ampersand issue didn't seem to affect the actual return, just how TT reflected it in the Step By Step process. Our actual W2 information should have been transmitted correctly separately by our payroll company, so I don't think this glitch will have an impact.  I filed yesterday, so hopefully that's the case!

Here is a link to a TurboTax article with instructions to edit the W-2.

You will be able to correctly file your return as long as the EIN for the employer and your SSN are correct on the W-2. The IRS checks identification numbers for verification.

You can try using the correct name as long as you are sure the federal ID number is correct. The name may just be spelled differently on your W-2 form then on the copy the company sent to the IRS.
