Under the new tax law, what is the minimum income required for a dependent to file a federal return for 2018?

  • earned and unearned income together total more than the larger of (1) $1,050, or (2) total earned income (up to $12,000) plus $350.

filing requirement is still $400 if the income comes from self employment ... that didn't change.
