Turbotax won't let me finish reviewing due to a "missing ein" on my 1099-NEC. I only have a SSN from my employer & it has been entered already. Is there a glitch?

This experience has been resolved for new entries of Form 1099-NEC. If you previously entered this form, your best option is to delete the form and re-enter the information.

Open your return and go to Federal >> Wages & Income >> Other Common Income >> Income from Form 1099-NEC. Click Start/Update.

Or go to Tax Tools >> Tools >> Topic Search. Enter 1099-nec then click Go.

  1. On the screen Did you get a 1099-NEC?, click on Yes
  2. Or on the screen "1099-NEC Summary" click Delete (trashcan icon) beside the previous entry you made that is causing the error message.
  3. Return to the summary page and click Add a 1099-NEC.
  4. Re-enter the information for Form 1099-NEC. Be sure to check the box for SSN and not EIN.
  5. If the error message returns, go back to the 1099-NEC and enter the SSN in the format for an EIN (xx-xxxxxxx).
