Turbotax misread my state as ID and now my zip code doesn't match. It will let me "correct" my zip code but not the state. How do I edit the state?

It misread a PDF I uploaded;  I believe the "ID" came from "taxpayer ID."

I think you are saying that when you downloaded  your W-2, either the state in the address box "c" or the state in box 15 was incorrectly read and entered into the software.

Are you able to delete the W-2 and enter the information by hand?  Delete the W-2 by following these directions:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Under Your income, scroll down to W-2.
  • Click on Edit/Add to the right of W-2.
  • Click on the delete trashcan to the right of the W-2 that is incorrect.

You are able to correctly report your state of residence under My Info down the left side of the screen.  Click Edit to the right of your name.  Enter the correct state at the box State of residence (on December 31, 2022).

I had originally uploaded a pdf of the 1099 rather than connecting to my broker, which, perplexingly, said it wouldn't be available for another couple weeks. By the time I decided I was ready to file, the form was available online, so deleted the pdf and got the info directly from my broker, which worked.
