Turbotax is no longer asking for address and TIN of Payers when entering 1099s?

In past years, every time I manually entered 1099s, Turbotax had fields to enter the Payer's address and their TIN.  This year there is no place to enter that information.  There is only a field for the name of the Payer and that's it.

Is this going to work correctly or are address and TIN necessary to provide?  And if it is necessary, why is there no place for them on the 1099 input form?

PS: This is not a question about automatically uploading 1099 data from the Payer.  I am talking about manual entry of 1099s.

Thank you.

Turbotax may have asked for this info, but that information was never required by the tax authorities. it was never transmitted to the IRS or states.  it was just a time waster for those preparing their returns.

Thank you Mike9241.  That's what I suspected because I did my tax returns manually on paper for about 45 years and know that information was never included on the IRS forms.  And I see it isn't used when I go into the "Forms" view in TT.

Although I'm glad that Turbotax finally stopped requiring entries that are not needed simplifying the process, I hate the new 1099 format this year.  I liked it much better the way it was last year and before.  Too much screen wasting imagery and theatrics for something so simple.  Stick to straightforward black and white lists of the 1099s that you can easily click to edit that doesn't require so much scrolling and link clicking.

Having the information icons is fine, but please stop with all the unnecessary graphics.

I agree with the other poster here.  While the payer information may not be required by the IRS, I am entering it in the Forms view just so that it is there.  I also am not happy with the change to entering 1099-DIV and 1099-INT this year.  Go back to the old screens.

So does this mean all I need to do is enter the dollar amount I received, which doesn’t change from year to year. I’ve spent 3 hours searching for last years 1099-R to get the company name and address TIN#. Ughhh

Which TurboTax product are you using: Online or CD/download? If the latter, is it for Windows or Mac?
