TurboTax is limiting my total itemized deductions to $10,000 even with contributions.

TurboTax is limiting my total itemized deductions to $10,000. I have a significant amount of charitable contributions, but TurboTax does not recognize them and automatically gives me the standard deduction. I thought that the SALT limitation applied to state and local taxes. Why is it not allowing me to add my contributions?

Please be aware, that there's a limit on how much of your charitable contributions you can deduct. Please see What are excess charitable contributions? for details.

This does not explain it.   My property tax is over 10000 and I know that limit but what has that to do with charitable donations?   My donations are nowhere near 60% of my agi but they would exceed the standard deduction combined with the 10000 property tax.

We are not able to view your tax return.

On Schedule A Itemized Deductions, what numbers are you seeing on:

line 4,

line 7,

line 10,

line 14,

line 15 and

line 16?

Please clarify.

i have same problem - did you get an answer how to make it go back to itemized, since they should only apply the cap to state taxes not federal?

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

Please be specific about your problem and what are the areas that appear incorrect because as mentioned above there are limits to contributions.
