TurboTax has entered erroneous info & it won't let me change it

TurboTax is entering a 2020 federal extension payment it says I made in 2021, but I did no such thing & it won't let me change the figure. Is this a know glitch? Is there a way to change the number to zero?

If you are still getting an error, it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file that is experiencing this issue.

You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

@LenaH I sent the diagnostic file. Keep in mind, I did not file an extension, so there should be no amount in the extension payment field. The field is locked, so I cannot change it.

Can you please reply to this thread with the token number?

 TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

Thank you, the token is #994840. The $1940. 2020 extension payment made in 2021 never happened. That should be $0, but the field is locked.

Thank you for your token. This matter was investigated further. Please remove the amount of your 2021 refund applied to 2022. Enter 0. Then, it removes the amount from your 2020 federal extension payment made in 2021.

To do this, please complete the steps below:

  1. Open (continue) your return, if you don't already have it open
  2. Inside your return, search for this exact phrase: apply federal refund to next year and then select the Jump to link in the search results
  3. Enter 0 on the Apply Refund to 2022 Taxes screen.

If using TurboTax Desktop, you can get to this screen by going to Federal Taxes > Other Tax Situations > Apply refund to next year.
