It seems that the state tax doesn’t understand that my daughter doesn’t have a SSN. I’m not claiming any deductions for here, just want to move on filing the tax but it doesn’t allow me too due to the issue found.
If your child does not have a Social Security Number nor an Individual taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) you will need to remove that child from the "Personal Info" section, or print your returns and apply for an ITIN for that child.
HERE is a link for applying for an ITIN
Thanks so much Kris. I’ve tried to remove her from my personal info, and it all works on the Fwderal tax. But when the state tax is reviewed, they still find the issue there. I guess I would need to remove her from the state tax form too, but I can’t find how to do it. Any thoughts? And thanks again…
After removing the child on the federal section "Personal Info" please close the account and revisit to see if the removal flowed to the state return.
If the issue remains, please tell us the program you are using (Premier, Deluxe), if it is Online or Desktop and the state you are filing.
Unfortunately, it didn't solve the issue.
I'm attaching a screenshot of the issue; hopefully, that will help clarify.
I'm filing in California using Turbo Tax Deluxe online (Chrome Browser) on a laptop
I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:
