turbotax desktop won't continue on eligible virginia educator

As the title says, it won't progress when clicking continue. Click back allows me out of it.

Things I've tried:

Ensured educator expenses are in the federal portion.

Restarted computer

Installed on a new device.

Considering the steps you've already taken, your best bet would be to delete your state return and start it over again.

See the TurboTax Help article How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software? for guidance.

I am having this issue too. Deleting the state return and restarting has the same results. I've tried to restarting turbotax, restarting computer, restarting state return, and they all have the same results where i cannot advance beyond educator information on the state return.

My understanding: You entered the Teacher expenses in the federal section, the entry is correct. Next, the state. It asks Eligible Educator, yes, continue, amount and then you are stuck.

What to do:

  1. While on the screen where you are stuck, go into Forms mode.
  2. You should be on the deductions statement. You may need to scroll down to the Qualified Education Expenses.
  3. Enter the educator expense there. It is not an override and will not cause a problem. It is a direct entry field.
  4. Your deductions should flow through correctly.
  5. On the left side, in the list of forms, locate Form 760.
  6. Select the 760. This lets you see your return and moves you away from the stuck spot.
  7. Select Step by Step in the top right, where Forms was to get here

Mine did the same thing.  Go to forms 760.  Right click (the box for Virginia qualified educator deduction).  Select "Override" and enter the amount.  It should work.  It worked on mine.

You don't need to override anything, just enter the information on Form 760.  @Fan32   If you right-click and use the override command in the desktop program, you won't be able to e-file your return and you void the accuracy guarantee.   Just enter the amounts on Form 760, no override necessary.
