TurboTax 2024 prompt for access to keychain

When I install TurboTax 2024, I get the message, "

TurboTax 2024 wants to use your confidential information stored in “tax-bpxl_uuid_service” in your keychain."  Why is this necessary?  What happens if I choose to deny this?

Thank you.

Possibly, it wants the password to your online account, which is stored in your Mac "keychain" with all your other passwords.  This can also happen if you save your return with encryption, because Turbotax needs keychain access to write the encryption password to the keychain, and it also needs keychain access to retrieve the password when you want to open your return again.

I don't use keychain. I have another app the stores my username and password.

If you haven't given TurboTax Keychain access, you can select Forgot Password in the password request window to answer your security question. That will get you back in. Once you're back in, select Password Encrypt from the File menu if you want to update or remove your password.

How do I access my password-protected TurboTax Desktop file if I forget the password?

Use passkeys to sign in to your Intuit Account
