Turbotax 2019- why critical updates now in May 2020,?

I just opened 2019 to check something and it downloaded "critical updates".  since I filed 12 months ago,
WHY are there critical updates from 2019 NOW? what if their update corrected something where my refund should have been higher?   Since don't notify us of programming error they know of but haven't yet corrected and only guarntee if not enough taxes paid, but no guarantee for under report of refund due to their mistakes, I have lost trust in them.  Welcome explanation and reassurance if true.

would really appreciate a reply from someone who knows why updates are done a year after filing (2019 turbotax update in May 2020) and how we can be assured it doesn't correct for information used on the numbers of our already filed returns

Most updates done after season are to correct programming issues that don't affect your return.  However sometimes late tax law changes do happen and the program has to update to incorporate them.

When there are changes that  "may" affect your return an email alert is sent out with information on the issue and instructions on how to correct it if needed.  That is why your email address is confirmed before you file.

Thank you.  I was relieved to know they do send out emails since I learned they don't alert us to programming errors they are working on so that we know to hold off on filing until their error is corrected....
