Turbo tax said that I getting more than a $10,000 refund from the Feds, but when I printed the PDF, it showed that I owed more than $300.00. How did that happen?

Did it say you got a $10,000 "Tax Break"?

If Single, your Personal Exemption is $4,050; and your Standard Deduction is $6,350. These total to $10,400, but this amount is a deduction from your income, before the tax is calculated.  It is not a credit or a refund.

As in my question, I said "refund" which is completely different than your answer.

All the data was entered, and it assured me that I had more than a $10,000 refund. Then in the PDF printout, it said that I owed $365.

When I paid for Turbotax, they said they offered help. But I haven't been able to talk to anyone about this. You would think that for $140.00 they could at least offer chat. I thought I had that level of service, but they have fooled me, so far.

Turbotax should warn buyers that they may not stand behind their product.

This is a user to user forum. You can probably get help from this forum by asking a specific question. All you've said is hat the bottom line changed . That's common.

To contact TurboTax (TT) support:
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/contact/index.jsp">https://turbotax.intuit.com/support/contact/index.jsp</a>
In the search line enter some keywords or question without quotes. On the next page, skip the suggested topic links and scroll down until you see CALL US.  It should show the wait times.  Week days 5 AM - 5 PM Pacific time

This is isn't about taxes, it it is bug in TurboTax. I hope you are wrong, when you say "That's common". Are you saying that TurboTax can't calculate the correct tax? Or are you saying that it often calculates incorrectly.

The question is specific. The box said that I would get more than a $10,000 refund. I clicked to file. The taxes filed. When I looked at the PDF, it said that I owed $365. You can't get more specific than that unless you can see the TurboTax server log. Only TurboTax can see why the program failed.

I paid for support. That is why I chose TurboTax. But so far, I haven't been able to get any support.

I put the question here, because it is the only option that I have. The phone line is or was closed.

I paid about $140.00 for TurboTax, but so far, this is the only "support" that I have.

It sounds like the $10,000 was just an interim result, before you had finished entering all your data.

Review your main tax form (form 1040, form 1040A of form 1040EZ). Does anything look wrong? There can't be a $10,000+ difference between the two calculations without you having some inkling of which result is correct
